Grandma Maxine

Grandma Maxine, also know as Grandma Ingram, or Grandma Magazine was such a kind and loving grandmother. She loved her grandchildren more than anything. As kids we spent a lot of time at her house, playing in the backyard, the treehouse, under the couch, and in the basement. She had incredible patience with us and never got upset. She was an incredible cook who loved to read recipes in her spare time. I miss her.

Grandma Maxine's Apple Pie

Apple Pie

Grandma Maxine's apple pie is an icon in our family. No holiday would be complete without Grandma baking an apple pie. She made a lot of different desserts but this is definitely the most legendary. It tastes like love.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  2. Combine filling ingredients (except Brown Sugar and Butter) in a bowl and stir.
  3. For crust, combine Flour, Salt, and Crisco. Slowly add water until dough forms a ball. Divide into 2 balls, roll out, and place one crust in pie pan.
  4. Add filling to pie crust, then top with Brown Sugar and Butter slices.
  5. Add the second crust, seal edges, and sprinkle Sugar and Cinnamon on top. Cut some decorative vents in the crust for steam to escape.
  6. Bake at 425°F for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 350°F and bake for an additional 45 minutes.

Recipe Summary

Eat it with ice cream or eat it plain, it's delicious either way. In fact, Grandpa Ingram ate this pie in a bowl with milk poured over top so I suppose that's the traditional way to enjoy it.
